Matt Belz serves as Special Counsel for Thomas More Society. He received his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 2008, where he served as the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dispute Resolution. During law school, Belz obtained Rule 13 Certification, which allowed him to gain significant courtroom experience at the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in St. Charles, Missouri.
He graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2005, where he studied Business Administration with a minor in Philosophy.
Belz practices general litigation with emphases in civil liberties and small business. His primary focus has been federal court litigation, and in particular, Section 1983/civil rights matters. He has handled appellate, certiorari and amicus briefing at various levels in federal and state cases, and is admitted into the U.S. Federal Court of Claims, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, and the Missouri Supreme Court.
